Summer is just around the corner and a lot of people will want to make sure that their beach bodies are “in order” for the upcoming 3 months of sunny days. What can you do to stay slim and healthy this summer? We have gathered 5 of the best ways to achieve this and put them in the following list – so make sure to read on and find out more.
Drink Plenty of Water
By now you have probably grown tired of just how much people emphasize on the fact that we should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This stands especially true during the summer and especially because the heat is very likely to dehydrate us. If you want to stay healthy (and slim!) this summer, make sure you do get plenty of water. Also, keep in mind that “water” is not the same thing as coffee, soda or juice. If you don’t like plain water, replace it with iced green tea or simply squeeze some lemon in it.
Fight Hay Fever
Studies show that more than 25% of the population suffers from hay fever – and we all know just how awful that can be. While in general hay fever is treated with the help of over-the-counter medication, you should know that there are other things you can do too. Have plenty of vitamin C (found in citrus fruit, strawberries and so on), plenty of oily fish for its Omega 3 fatty acids (salmon and tuna are two great examples here) and plenty of onions and garlic (for the substance called “quercetin”, which is believed to be anti-inflammatory).
Eat Seasonal Foods
Thankfully, there are plenty of healthy foods to eat during the summer. And all of them are absolutely delicious! Keep your menu as natural as possible by choosing to eat seasonal foods that are grown in an organic way and your body will thank you for it. Even more than that, seasonal foods are much more likely to be full of vitamins and nutrients – so your health will surely be at its peak.
Soak Up the Sun
Sunny days are very healthy for you too. Studies show that people who spend time in the sun have better levels of vitamin D in their bodies. In other words, their bone structure, their circulation and blood quality and even their memory is better. Spend a reasonable amount of time in the sun as often as possible, but make sure you use a SPF protection cream because too much sun can be genuinely hurtful as well!
Stay Active
Summer is a great time to be spent outdoors with your friends and family. Volleyball games, biking, trekking – all of these things are not only very relaxing, but also incredibly healthy for your body. Staying active will help your blood flow better, your muscles be stronger and it will also boost your immune system too. Plus, your brain and your general state will thank you for it as well!
