Pimples are small, hard, white or yellowish bumps. They are caused by different factors. Some have to do with the products we use, genetics and skin types.
Medicinally known as closed comedones, blackheads are formed when dead layers of the skin and fat (a product of the sebaceous glands) block the hair follicles. When this fat is spread onto the skin surface, which is exposed to air, it oxidizes, and creates black dots, known as blackheads. They are a common case with people who have oily skin and those experiencing hormonal changes (puberty, pregnancy), and they appear mostly on the cheeks, nose and chest.
Luckily, there are few things which you can do in order to eliminate them and improve the look of your skin. Natural medicines, however, are not some kind of a miracle, so be ready to invest a little bit of time and be patient in the process of their removal.
Get rid of pimples and blackheads with the help of homemade products
1. Steaming
You can easily do your own personal spa treatment at home. The steam will open up the pores and this is one of the best ways to get rid of pimples and blackheads. Pour boiling water in a big vessel and you can add several drops of essential oil from lavender, chamomile, rosemary and lemon. Put a big towel over your head and place your face over the vessel for 5 to 10 minutes. If you see that the pimples and blackheads softened after the treatment, you can easily pop them. Repeat this process at least once a week.
Alternative solution: Soak the towel in warm water, strain it and then put it over your face for a few minutes and this has a similar effect as the steaming.
2. A pilling from oat mash
In order to treat your face properly, supply it with nutrients. You can make your own pilling at home:
Mix equal parts from raw honey and oat. Apply it onto your face and leave it for 20 minutes. Before removing it, massage your face gently for a few minutes. Wash off the pilling with lukewarm water.
You can also add kaolin clay which has a lot of benefits, including antibacterial detoxification properties. Kaolin clay can be used on a daily basis and it will help you cleanse the skin and remove the dirt from the pores.
3. Sodium bicarbonate
It can be combined with water to create a thick paste. Mix one part of water with three parts of sodium bicarbonate to make the paste. Leave the mask onto the face until it dries off and then wash it off. This treatment is very useful after the steaming process. Instead of sodium bicarbonate, use kaolin clay to make the paste.
4. Apple cider vinegar
This is also a good ingredient for cleansing your face. After the steaming process, apply a little bit of apple cider vinegar and leave it to dry. Do not wash off.
5. A mask from honey and eggs
This is a great mask which will strengthen the pores and provide the skin with the necessary moisture. Mix one spoon of organic yogurt, one spoon of raw honey and one egg white. Apply the mixture onto the face and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
6. Lemon juice
Lemons contain alpha hydroxyl acids which rejuvenates the skin naturally. Mix equal parts of lemon juice, honey and brown sugar (set the equal parts as you want). Then, take from the mixture and rub your face with it around 5 minutes. You can leave it onto the face for another several minutes and then wash it off and dry. You can also mix fresh lemon juice with milk or rose water if you want to create a quality tonic and use it several times weekly.
7. Tea tree essential oil
If you want to prevent spreading of infections and bacteria, use this oil. Since this is a very powerful liquid and can cause a reaction, it is for the best to dilute it before applying it onto the skin.
Dilute it with witch hazel or aloe vera which enable additional healing and have hydrant potential in relation 1:9. Apply from this diluted oil on the affected area with the help of a cotton pad and leave it to dry. Do not wash off.
Medicinally approved products
If natural methods were not helpful, some people decide to undergo chemical treatments against acne which contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic, acid and retinol which kill bacteria, absorb oil and help with the removal of pimples and blackheads.
Start with a lower and finer concentration so you can avoid skin irritation (however, in order for the cure to be successful, it must contain at least 5 percent of benzoyl peroxide). You should be very careful when you apply the cream or ointment i.e. only on the affected areas, not on the entire face.
Begin with a smaller amount and watch how the skin reacts (some people may be allergic). Peroxide dries the skin, so, after 5 or 10 when you wash off your face, be sure to apply a water based cream.
Additional advices:
-Drink enough water so that your skin is hydrated which will help in the acne removal and your skin will be softer.
-Keep your face and hair clean. Wash your hands before touching your face.
-Change sheets regularly to prevent bacteria spreading.
-Eat enough fruits and vegetables and check whether you have taken in enough vitamin A and E which feed the skin. When you choose beauty products (creams, shampoos, makeup) ,buy products that are water based instead of oil based which cause clogging and prevent the water from hydrating the face.
-Do not apply too much makeup and always remove it before you go to sleep.
-Do not pop blackheads and pimples since you can worsen the situation and increase bacteria presence.
-If you do not notice any improvement after eight weeks, you may need to visit a dermatologist or a professional who can help you with the extraction of pimples and blackheads.
