Most of us may feel like we have been talking about health for years. With the
Covid-19 crisis still looming large, health and wellbeing are firmly in the
spotlight. With fall upon us and winter just around the corner, it’s
beneficial to look for ways you can boost your health and protect your body
and mind.
Mental health
Many people struggle with their mental health as the weather changes. In 2020,
anxiety levels have peaked, and with winter on the horizon, there could be an
increase in the number of people experiencing symptoms of anxiety and
depression. It’s really important to look after your
mental wellbeing
and to view it as an integral part of your overall health. It’s crucial to
realize that help is available for those who have severe symptoms, but it’s
also critical to understand that everyone can take steps to shield their
mental health. Look after yourself, take time out, devote more time to hobbies
and seeing people who make you feel happy, be kind to yourself, talk about how
you feel and try to exercise frequently. Make sure you get enough rest. If you
have trouble sleeping, consult your doctor and try adapting your evening
routine. Spend an hour or so doing things that relax you and induce calmness,
avoid checking emails or social media late at night and get into bed and get
up at the same time every day. Getting out into the open air might not be as
appealing when it’s cold and gray outside, but fresh air can lift your spirits
and give you a much-needed energy boost.
Skincare
We often see skincare advice for women, but the changing conditions affect
everyone and that’s why
skin care tips for men
are beneficial. Cold weather, wind and icy conditions can increase the risk of
dry skin. To prevent dehydration, increase radiance and youthfulness and keep
the skin feeling soft, make sure you drink plenty of water on a daily basis,
hydrate your skin using lotions and facial oils, which absorb quickly, and eat
well. Foods that are good for your skin include nuts, berries, tomatoes, leafy
green vegetables and oily fish.
Exercise
Exercise is a powerful natural tonic for improved mental and physical health.
Adopting an active lifestyle offers many benefits in the fall, including
improved immunity, lower stress levels and better quality sleep. When coughs and colds are
flying around, and there’s a risk of catching Covid-19, it’s important to take
steps to give yourself the best possible chance to fight off an infection. Eat
well, get plenty of rest, try and manage stress and exercise frequently.
Exercise can also increase energy levels and it makes you feel good. When your
body is moving, the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain increase,
and endorphins are released. You may feel like you’re about to keel over as
you approach the finish line or the end of a tough HIIT or weights session,
but afterwards, you’ll feel amazing.
Many of us are on a mission to
boost health and wellbeing this fall. Follow these steps to protect your body and mind.
