Perfect Yoga Poses To Ease Arthritis


Over the winter period it is often much easier for us to suffer from arthritis and joint pain each and every day. Even after the cold season many of us suffer from aches and pains and these can stop us from doing the things we enjoy in life. This is why today we are going to take a look at some handy yoga poses which you can practice every day to help you stay healthy and flexible even with arthritis.


Child’s Pose

The first move we are going to talk about to relieve some of the pain you may feel from arthritis is Child’s Pose. This is a simple resting pose which involves you coming onto your hands and knees, spreading your knees slightly wide and then folding to rest your head on the floor. This pose is ideal to stretching the back and opening up the spine, and will also help to open up your hips. Once in this pose, hold for 30 seconds or so before coming back up to your hands and knees.


Mountain Pose

Although it looks as if you are simply standing up, the mountain pose really makes you focus more on your posture and your center. Stand with your feet at hip-width apart, and make sure that you don’t lock your knees. Ensure that you raise your chest and stand straight. This is a simple but effective pose because it helps to improve your posture and it also allows you to take pressure off your lower back. Doing this for 1 minute while breathing steadily can be a great addition to our practice.


Cat-Cow Pose

Now for a pair of poses which work hand and hand with eachother. Cat-cow poses are both wonderful for the spine and they really help to open up those lower back musckes as well as the shoulders and neck. For these poses start on your hands and knees. Take a deep breath and arch your back like a cat, hold for a few seconds and then exhale and raise your head while arching your back down for the cow pose. Flow through these movements a few times, taking a few seconds to pause on each move, before moving onto your next move.


Staff Pose

Staff Pose

The staff pose is another really simple but deceivingly difficult pose to master. For this, you need to sit up straight with your legs out in front of your and your arms by your side on the mat with palms down. Make sure to lift your toes up to get the full effect of this stretch. This is a useful stretch for anyone who suffers from hamstring issues or lower back pain and it can be something which increases both strength and flexibility in these areas.


Downward Dog Pose

Downward Dog Pose

This pose is one which you may have already come across in physical therapy for arthritis and for general achs and pains and it is one of the most common resting poses for yoga. From a plank position simply lift your hips and form an inverted V with your body. This stretch works for the shoulders chest, hips, back and legs simultaneously.
