There's nothing inherently wrong with snacking, but too much of a good thing in anyone's diet can lead to weight gain. I've always loved snacking, but it's a habit that has caused me to pack on extra pounds in the past. Luckily, I got a hold of my snacking addiction last year, and it has helped me shed excess fat and lose weight.
[post_ads]I'm known to snack in between lunch and dinner. The afternoon is when I start to feel the stress of the day wearing on me, so it's an easy time to reach for some nosh, whether it's a handful (or two) of granola, a protein bar, or straight-up chocolate. That's why I started this daily habit: after I finish lunch, I drink a really tall glass of water. That helps me seal off my eating window, it keeps me hydrated, and it fills up my belly, which leaves me feeling like I couldn't eat anything else even if I wanted to.
This may not work for everyone, but it's worth a shot if you have trouble with afternoon snacking. Drinking lots of water has so many different benefits, and having that extra eight ounces after your midday meal may prevent you from noshing unnecessarily.
Keep in mind that I wasn't depriving myself from eating when I was truly hungry. Rather, this was a useful technique for me when I knew I didn't need any extra food between meals. Remember to listen to your body when you're actually hungry, and don't simply restrict yourself from eating because you're trying to lose weight.
