This Is What 1 Day of My Meals Looks Like on Weight Watchers

By Hedy Phillips, POPSUGAR

My favorite thing about Weight Watchers is that I can still eat the same foods as I always have. I may have to eat a little bit less of them and space out the junk with a bunch of veggies in between, but I still eat a lot of ice cream. And cheese. I will always eat a lot of cheese.

To prove that eating on Weight Watchers is pretty similar to eating not on Weight Watchers, I documented an entire day of what I eat. Obviously I vary it from day to day, but this is a pretty typical day for me. On Weight Watchers, I get 30 Smart Points per day to eat, and this day came out to exactly 30. I also get 42 weekly points that I can use in case I really wanted that extra scoop of ice cream and had already hit my 30 points for the day. Not that that ever happens to me . . . but the point system provides a lot of flexibility so you can really tailor it to what you want to eat.

[post_ads]While Weight Watchers doesn't count anything beyond points, it is obviously not recommended to ignore other nutritional information and eat a giant 30-point meal in a day and not eat anything else. For one, you won't accomplish much doing that because you'll be hungry other times during the day and possibly screw up the plan by eating more than you really want to. It also isn't sustainable in the long run, so it's important to understand how to mix your favorite not-so-healthy foods in small portions with a lot of 0-point options (almost all fruits and veggies!) to help fill you up.

Weight Watchers, for me, has been a lot of trial and error with balancing my meals to find the right blend of higher- and lower-calorie foods that will keep me full and still keep me on the path to losing weight. And of course with any healthy-eating plan, it's OK if you have a bad day — you learn from it and do better tomorrow.

Breakfast

I've never been a huge fan of breakfast, so I don't eat much in the mornings. One thing I always have is tea, and right now I'm drinking a lot of Wedgewood Blackberry Tea.

Smart Points breakdown
  • Apple: 0 SP
  • Weight Watchers Mint Cookie Crisp snack bar: 2 SP
  • Multiple cups of tea: 0 SP

Midmorning snack

I'm a huge fan of snacks and a huge fan of Jell-O. It's a great snack for Weight Watchers because it's a sweet treat with not a whole lot to it.

Smart Points breakdown
  • 1 cup sugar-free Jell-O: 0 SP

Lunch

I've been making a lot of Betty Crocker chili because it's so low in points. I swap out the beef for turkey to make it even leaner and portion it out for the week so it's only 5 points per bowl.

Smart Points breakdown
  • Chili: 5 SP
  • 1 tbsp. shredded cheddar: 1 SP
  • 1 tbsp. plain nonfat Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream): 0 SP
  • 10 saltine crackers: 4 Sp

Dinner

I admit I mostly hate salads, but if I find enough stuff to put on them, I hate them a little less. Also the fact that I can still use ranch dressing to mask the taste of anything green really makes my life easier. The night I first made this salad, I was just trying to use up the few bits of produce I had on hand, and I was pretty happy with how it came out. But since a salad isn't anywhere near filling, I also threw together a small sandwich that I microwaved to warm up. I'm all about quick, easy, and lazy.

Smart Points breakdown
  • Sandwich thin: 3 SP
  • 2 oz. deli-sliced turkey: 2 SP
  • 1 tbsp. shredded cheddar: 1 SP
  • 1 tbsp. spicy mustard: 0 SP
  • 2 cups salad greens: 0 SP
  • 1/2 cup grape tomatoes: 0 SP
  • 1/4 cup blueberries: 0 SP
  • 2/3 cup sliced canned beets: 0 SP
  • 1 tbsp. sunflower seeds: 1 SP
  • 2 tbsp. ranch dressing: 5 SP

Evening snack

Ice cream is practically its own food group to me, but regular run-of-the-mill ice cream is difficult to fit into a Weight Watchers meal plan. That's why I love that Halo Top exists. It's delicious and still good for you, which is why I eat it nearly every day.

Smart Points breakdown
  • 1/2 cup Black Cherry Halo Top: 3 SP
  • 1/2 cup Strawberry Halo Top: 3 SP
