Chalene Johnson’s PiYo Flip

Cure workout boredom and build muscle in just one move!

Fitness pro Chalene Johnson has created an exercise gift that keeps on giving: the PiYo Flip. It engages nearly every part of your body, including shoulders, glutes, legs and core. “By increasing your flexibility, it also increases your muscular endurance,” says Johnson. “That, in turn, helps prevent injuries and gives you better balance and coordination.” Go ahead and try it—it’s got your back too. 


Step 1
Start in plank position with your hands on the floor beneath your shoulders. Bend your right knee so that the foot points up in the air.

If you don’t have the strength to support yourself through the whole move just yet, begin in a modified push-up position with your knees on the floor. Lift your right leg up and over, rotating your left knee but keeping it down.
 
Step 2
Flip over, letting the ball of your right foot land opposite from start position, extending your right arm back along the side of your head and slowly pushing your hips up toward the sky. Pause for 3 to 5 seconds, return to plank and repeat with your left leg. Do two more reps on each side.

Your motivator: Chalene Johnson is a fitness and lifestyle expert as well as the author of Push. She’s created several exercise programs, including PiYo and TurboFire. According to Guinness World Records, Chalene has produced the most fitness videos by an individual. She set the record at 94 but now has more than 100!
