There's a new fitness
trend emerging and it's one we can definitely get on board with. Yes,
thanks to two Berlin-based instructors, now you can practice yoga and
drink beer at the same time. BierYoga,
or Beer Yoga (if you hadn't guessed the translation), was set up by
yoga teachers Emily and Jhula who were inspired to start their spiritual
boozing classes after seeing it done at Burning Man, ExBerliner reports.
"BeerYoga
is the marriage of two great loves – beer and yoga," their website
explains. "Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind and soul. The
joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga compliment each other,
and make for an energizing experience."
[post_ads]The
hour-long sessions cost around $5, and another $5 buys participants two
beers, which Jhula incorporates into classic yoga moves. While the idea
of taking swigs between poses sounds tempting, the teachers have
stressed that the classes are no booze-fest. "BeerYoga is fun but it's
no joke – we take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure
of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness," they
say.
If you're looking for a
healthier workout, it's probably a better idea to stick to drinking in
the pub, but the idea that alcohol helps you reach a state of
enlightenment has proved to be a hit around the world.
As Mashable
notes, Beer Yoga is set to become an international phenomenon and there
are already classes on offer in Sydney. What's the betting that
beer-loving Americans will welcome this new concept, too?
