Self-Care Tips for Stressheads

If you’re alive, chances are you’re stressed, at least some of the time. Stress is just a part of being human. It can even be a good part when it pushes you on to be more effective and efficient, but a lot of the time, stress sucks. It makes you feel tired, anxious and depressed. It robs you of sleep and prevents you from enjoying life to its fullest. Stress needs to be zapped.

The good news is, there are lots of fairly simple things you can start doing today that will, if not get rid of your stress completely, help to alleviate the worst symptoms so you can get back to enjoying life again...


Do Less

One of the most effective things you can do to see off stress is to do less. The more time you have to relax and replenish your energy stores, the better. Of course, this is often harder said than done when we all lead such busy lives, but if you really want it, you’ll find a way. Drop anything that doesn’t make you happy and isn’t strictly necessary for a start, then take each task on its merits, asking yourself if the stress is worth the outcome of the task or not. You’ll soon have a far more stress-proof life if you give this a go.




Take a Vacation

It can often feel like a vacation is out of the question. There’s always something that needs to be done at home or there’s a big project at work that you just have to be there for, but slowing down and taking time out is important. It will, in fact, help you to tackle those stress-inducing parts of life with more ease. So check out the vacation rentals at Carolina Designs, head to the bookstore and pick up a few easy reads and head off to some tropical paradise where you can just be for a while. You won’t regret it.


Journal

When you’re feeling overwhelmed; when you have a million thoughts flying through your head, journaling can be your best friend. The simple act of putting pen to paper and writing your worries down on the page is often enough to dissipate them, or at least stop them from troubling you so much. It’s like sweeping up for your brain. Do this for a couple of minutes before bed and you’ll sleep like a baby instead of ruminating all night. Give it a try and you’ll see just how effective it can be.


Exercise

I know, I know, but exercise really does help to blow the cobwebs away. The act of exerting yourself physically gives you a break from your thoughts for a little while, and you’ll release happy-making hormones that will help you to break through the stress too.

Taking the time to practice self-care is an investment in yourself. Not only will it help you to keep stress at bay, but it will also make life more enjoyable in itself. When you're less stressed you’ll be more effective at work and home and everyone will notice the difference.
