This Is How Often You Should Work Out to Lose Weight, Straight From a Beachbody Trainer

We know you're wondering: how often should you work out each week in order to lose weight? It's the age-old question that we've all asked at one point. Autumn Calabrese, Beachbody Super Trainer and creator of 80-Day Obsession, is here to save the day. We asked her to give us the basics of working out and weight loss.

[post_ads]"Six workouts a week — at least four lifting and two cardio," she told POPSUGAR. "That's how I like it." She said some people are shocked by that number when they first hear it, especially when they realize that you only get one rest day. "But if you're doing pure cardio, you're not breaking down the muscle fibers the way you are when you're lifting," she explained. That means you can afford to do cardio on the days you're not doing strength training without worrying about overexerting yourself.

Autumn also reminded us of the fact that vast majority of Americans sit down for many hours each day. "If you want to be healthy, and if you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to be consistently active," she explained. "And you can't say you're consistently active if you only [work out] three or four days a week, because that means the majority of the time you're not active."

Going from rarely working out to working out six times a week may sound impossible, but Autumn says you have to "develop that habit" if you want to see lasting changes in your body. "You really have to step it up and put a little more into it," she encouraged.
