A new study suggests that yoga can help people with type 2 diabetes maintain their blood sugar and lose weight.
Reuters reports on the study which included 123 middle-aged adults who practiced yoga over a three-month period. Not only did their blood sugar drop, but they also lost weight:
'Among the 60 participants who took classes multiple times during the week, the average BMI -- a measure of weight in relation to height -- declined from 25.9 to 25.4. A BMI between 25 and 30 is considered overweight.'
They also measured the group's 'oxidative stress' levels, which declined by 20 percent (no surprise there, either).
It's great to see that science is slowly coming around and recognizing all of yoga's benefits!
