These 10 Kitchen Tools Can Help You Lose Weight—And You Can Get Them All On Amazon

A look at our favorite kitchen tools on Amazon that can help you lose weight and prepare delicious meals.

You already know that healthy foods like spinach, melon, and eggs are weight loss superstars, but what you may not realize is that the tools in your kitchen can be just as valuable for shedding pounds. It's true! After all, you can't turn those boneless chicken breasts and leafy greens into delicious, low-calorie meals with your bare hands. (Or a magic wand. Wouldn't that be nice!) Nope, you've got to use the right gear.
(Got 10 minutes? Then you've got time to lose the weight for good with Prevention's new 10-minute workouts and 10-minute meals. Get Fit in 10: Slim and Strong for Life now!)
Aside from the basics, like mixing bowls, pots, pans, and a good knife set, there are plenty of other tools that harbor serious slim-down properties. Here's a look at 10 of our favorites from Amazon that you should have on hand—and how they can help you cook your way to a healthier you.

Measuring Cups and Spoons

You don't have to measure every single morsel that goes into your mouth, but a set of measuring spoons and cups (one set for dry ingredients, another for wet) can help you portion out calorie-dense foods like nuts and seeds, dried fruit, whole grains, cereal, and oils. A few portion-control products our editors have at home: 1Easylife 18/8 Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons ($10), OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Measuring Cups ($17), and Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cups with Lid ($16).

Baking Sheets

When it comes to baking sheets, it's best to buy them in pairs. Having a bunch in your kitchen means that you can cook big batches of your favorite clean staples, so you're ready to eat clean all week long. Think: roast vegetables, baked chicken, homemade whole-wheat pizza, and low-sugar granola for sprinkling on top of fruit and yogurt parfaits. (Oh, and don't forget these 10 easy sheet-pan suppers.) We're fans of Elite Bakeware 2 Piece Extra Large Nonstick Baking Pans Set ($25) because the rims help keep annoying oven spills at bay.

Mason Jars

Clean, packable breakfasts and lunches are more likely to happen when you have a set of go-to reusable storage containers. (No more bakery muffins and deli sandwiches here, thanks very much!) Pick up a set like Ball Pint Regular Mouth BPA-Free Jars and Lids ($20) and use them to tote smoothies, overnight oats, fruit and yogurt, and even salads to the office.

Instant Pot

OK, so this one isn't 100% necessary. But if you tend to find yourself frequently resorting to takeout because there's not enough time to cook dinner, an Instant Pot might be the tool for you. It can churn out everything from whole grains, sweet potatoes, and stews, to a fully roasted chicken in less time than it would take for the delivery guy to get to your door. Which is sort of priceless, no? Instant Pot's 9-in-1 Multi-Functional 6 Qt Pressure Cooker ($119) is the perfect size and it's super easy to use. (Not sure if an Instant Pot is worth your cash? Find out what happened when one editor replaced all of her cookware with one for an entire week!)

Yup, you can use it to whip up a fruit and veggie smoothie for breakfast, but also to puree veggie- and bean-based soups and delicious sauces. Have a bit of a sweet tooth? You can also use a blender to make these 10 healthy ice creams. We like a mid-price option like the Ninja Professional Blender ($105)—it's more powerful than inexpensive models, but is more affordable than some other high-end blenders.

Food Processor

Food processors can do more than transform oatmeal, dates, and nut butter into energy bites. The shredder blade makes easy work of shredding a big batch of veggies for salads or sandwiches. And the French fry disc can make oven fries out of practically anything—from sweet potatoes and butternut squash to broccoli stalks. KitchenAid's 9-Cup Food Processor ($115-$150) comes with both, along with two blade sizes, a dough blade, and an extra work bowl, making it well worth the cash.

Salad Spinner

Washing and chopping veggies at the beginning of the week means they're ready to go for salads, stir-fries, and snacks. So what's the salad spinner for? It's the best tool for getting veggies totally dry before packing them up, so they won't turn soggy and mushy after a day in the fridge. The top seller on Amazon, OXO Good Grips Large Salad Spinner ($28), is a solid option.

Box Grater

Yes, cheese is loaded with calories and easy to eat too much of, but a world without it would be so, so sad. A box grater shreds cheese into tiny pieces, so you can scatter more bits of flavor onto your sandwich, pizza, or salad without using up half the block. We like Zestkit's Stainless Steel Box Grater ($12) because it's sturdy and has a comfy silicone handgrip.

For a grand total of zero calories, a pinch of fresh lemon, lime, or orange zest can perk up the flavor of any recipe. A zester helps you get the job done quickly (instead of peeling the citrus peel and finely chopping it by hand). Plus, you can use it to grate other clean flavor boosters like garlic and fresh ginger. Try AdeptChef's Citrus Lemon Zester ($9).
